Hedgerow and wildflower planting

Grow Wild

On Sunday 26th April 10.30am – 16.00pm we’ll be having another Hedgerow Planting and Wild Flower Sowing Day!

After the success last year, we are planting up more areas by the boundary fence with a native hedgerow – good for wildlife and also security.

Grow wild packs
We were fortunate to get enough free flower seeds from Grow Wild to be able to create areas of meadows in front of the hedgerows as well as making sure plot holders have wild flower seeds for their plots too. The wild flowers will encourage beneficial wildlife – pollinators like bees, hoverflies, butterflies and moths.
The seeds for the Giant Pumpkin competition being held in July have now been sown and will be available for purchase (£1) at the event. All entries will be marked at the Summer Vegetable Growing Competition

Looking forward to another good turnout of plot holders to help improve our site.

Work Day and Bonfire Party

BonfireFollowing the success of our spring planting day and Summer BBQ we’re holding another Work Day, followed by a Bonfire Party on Saturday 1 November.

We’ll be working at the Horseshoe site from 11am – 5pm, come along, helps us clear some plots and join in an early celebration of Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes with us!

We’ll be clearing some of the overgrown and vacant plots on The Horseshoe so they’re ready to rent to new plot holders and, sticking to our principles of sustainability and recycling, using the cleared material to build the bonfire.

Clearing these plots will benefit both new and existing TFAS members. More members will generate more income for the benefit of us all and will help keep costs down once we’re self-managed.  Coming along to the workday is a great way to meet your neighbours and get a good workout while joining in some community fun!

Don’t forget to bring gloves, tools, and something to cook on the bonfire – potatoes, marshmallows and any other goodies are welcome.

We hope to see you there!

Hedgerow planting day

Hedgerow day 2014

We just want to say thanks to everyone who came along to our hedgerow planting day today!

Thanks to a grant from the Woodland trust, assistance from Merton Council and in collaboration with various community groups we planted hundreds of hedgerow plants into the common green spaces around our site.

We’ve completed planting around the outside of the fences around the Horseshoe site and the Farm.

We hope that in the coming years our hedgerow will grow and flourish, encouraging wildlife, providing wild food for the local community making the area more attractive for everyone.
